Watch Kashus Culpepper Honor One Of Country's Biggest Legends Of All Time

Kashus Culpepper paid tribute to one of country music’s most beloved singer-songwriters of all time when he appeared on a recent episode of God’s Country.

The Alabama-born artist joined brothers and hosting duo Dan and Reid Isbell, and performed “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” a late 1940s classic by Drifting Cowboys and Hank Williams: “I’m so lonesome, I could cry/ I’ve never seen a night so long/ And time goes crawling by/ The moon just went behind the clouds/ To hide its face and cry.”

The Isbells said they “only wish Hank Williams could see [Culpepper’s cover] himself.”

“This week Reid and Dan host GRAMMY Artist to Watch and Opry Next Stage Class member, Kashus Culpepper out in God's Country. The three dissect when Kash was the state wrestling champion and how long he thinks it would take him to pen Reid and Dan both in a match. They roll through how Bream for breakfast is a delicacy where he's from in South Alabama. They share their favorite Chris Young album, riff of one of his top hits and Kashus wraps the show that we only wish Hank Williams could see himself.”

Dan and Reid — who have written music for Luke CombsMiranda LambertScotty McCreeryJon PardiLainey Wilson and others — started their weekly podcast in early January 2024. Some of the first guests to appear on the show include HARDYDustin LynchColbie Caillat and others.

“One of our favorite things about country music has always been how intertwined it is with the outdoors,” Dan and Reid Isbell said in a statement when God’s Country launched. They hope to “bring the outdoor enthusiast or country music lover an up close and personal look into the minds of some of the best songwriters and artists of the genre — a place where they can be honest about struggles, relationships, their connection to the outdoors, the music business, family, whatever they feel comfortable talking about. We can’t wait to see where this partnership will lead and who this podcast will reach.”

The iHeartPodcasts/MeatEater show is available anywhere you listen to podcasts, including in the iHeartRadio app. Select country stations will broadcast the show between 7-11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday evenings. Find God's Country here.
