Colbie Caillat teamed up with country star Lee Brice on âa heartfelt anthem about the complicated space between moving on and holding on.â
Caillat, and Brice wrote âKinda Singleâ with producers Eric Arjes and Jimmy Robbins. The group wrote the duet âwith raw honesty,â and delivered a song that âexplores the tug-of-war of a love that refuses to fully let go,â reads a press release issued Friday (August 29). Caillat released âKinda Singleâ and premiered the Brenton Giesey-directed music video, which was filmede in the Blueprint Cocktail Club in Nashville, Tennessee.
âIâd set anything on fire/ To burn a path back to you/ We keep makin me a liar/ Yea I canât change the truth/ The door that we ainât closin/ Tends to let a bit a us back through/ Guess Iâm always kinda single/ Long as youâre kinda single tooâ
âIâve wanted to do a song with Lee for so many years - he has one of my favorite voices, with such unique inflections and heart in everything he sings,â Caillat said in a statement. âWriting this together with him and the guys was so much fun - we even nicknamed ourselves âzest and pepâ; Iâm the lemon zest and heâs the pepper. âKinda Single,â is about that space between moving on and holding on, when no matter how hard you try to close the door, part of you keeps drifting back. Itâs messy, honest, and real, because sometimes love doesnât fit neatly into all-or-nothing.â
Caillat added in a caption on Instagram: âThank you, Lee and Jimmy for talking about my love life before I arrived to the session and coming up with this song idea. And thank you to everyone on both mine and Leeâs teams for making one of my dreams come true getting to release a song with the amazing Lee Brice. He is a true artist, a true vocalist and a true down to earth gentlemen.â
âKinda Singleâ is the latest song to release from Caillatâs upcoming 12-track album, This Time Around. The record blends new original music with reimagined versions of Caillatâs career-spanning hits. Other artists featured with Caillat include Maddie & Tae, Mitchell Tenpenny, Ryan Hurd, Russell Dickerson and more. This Time Around is due on September 26. Watch the âKinda Singleâ music video here:
