Maren Morris Inspired By Black Female Country Singers

Black country artists inspire Maren Morris.

The country superstar dazzled us as she claimed the mic during the 2020 CMA Awards to accept her win in the 'Female Vocalist of the Year' category, using her time on stage to honor the talents of black women in country music with a compelling and emotional speech.

In a recent interview with Cody Alan, "The Bones" singer shared why.

"I really didn't set out to be an activist," says Maren. "But, I think that in today's world, it's not even activism. It's just acknowledgment of a person who is loving this genre just as much as you but does not have the same leg up."

"When you see that happening as a human being, you're just like, "I want to do something about it," says Maren.

"At the end of the day, I am a fan of music and new music. That's how I get inspired to write. That's how I get turned on to people to bring out on tour," shares the "Girl" singer. "It's just as important to me as a single person to say, "How can I help?" Which is, promote people's music, get in the writing room with them, offer opportunities because obviously, I have a platform. For me, it all just comes back to the music."
