Lainey Wilson’s highly anticipated new album Bell Bottom Country is out today! She stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to talk about the album, being on Yellowstone and receiving the most nominations at the CMA Awards happening Wednesday, November 9th at 8/7c on NBC!
Wilson is the most nominated person at this year’s CMA Awards. She’s nominated for ‘Female Vocalist of The Year,’ ‘New Artist of The Year,’ ‘Album of The Year,’ ‘Song of The Year,’ and ‘Musical Event of The Year.’ She’s also performing her new song with HARDY called “Wait in the Truck.” She said she was dead asleep when her manager called her with the news. She was so excited to share the news with her family who has always been so supportive of her. The day she got the news about the CMA Awards, her father was in the hospital, and she got a video of him walking down the hospital hallways that she said meant way more to her than the nominations. Her dad is home now and doing much better, he just celebrated his 60th birthday and has been working hard to walk the CMA carpet with her!
Her new album, Bell Bottom Country, came out today, Friday, October 28th. She wrote the song “Those Boots” for her dad, which means something completely different to her now. The last song on the album “What’s Up (What’s Going On),” is a Linda Perry cover she plays with her band while on tour and wanted it to be on the album. Perry gave her blessing to record the song after they hung out. Things have started to really take off for Wilson this year, and that has a lot of people messaging her trying to say they know her. But she says a great group of girlfriends who are also artists, musicians and songwriters have been there for her for years. Her manager is her best friend and they have been together for eight years experiencing things together and chasing their dreams.
Not just a singer, Wilson will play a character named Abby on the new season of Yellowstone coming out November 13th. Some of her songs have played in previous seasons after she was invited to play an acoustic show for the cast and crew during the pandemic. Fast forward to this year and they wanted to create a character for her. She was freaking out because she had never acted before, so she got with a coach to give her the tools and gave it her best shot on TV. Her character is a musician who sings on the show, and she wrote something specifically for this season.
Before leaving, Wilson shared that her life has become so busy that she’s only slept in her bed eleven nights this year. She said she “sometimes has to look up and take a breath.” She realized she made a list last year of everything she wanted to do and it’s all actually happening for her this year. Bones also had to know about an old picture of her and Luke Combs together that was taken in 2014. Wilson said she had lived in Nashville for three years already when they met at Tin Roof in Nashville, and he came over to her camping trailer. Fast forward a few years and she’s currently on tour with Combs.
